Tom Orloff, Alameda County’s current District Attorney has decided to retire after serving fifteen years as DA. He’s looking forward to spending more time with his family. But who, then, will be the new DA?

Apparently the position has, in the past, been held only by males, but it looks like that might change soon. Orloff has recommended that his chief deputy, Nancy O’Malley, be the one to take his place in the office.

O’Malley is a seasoned prosecutor who specialized in sexual abuse cases. If appointed to succeed Orloff, it will give her a serious advantage if she decides to run in the June election for DA to keep the position.
