Last month, we told you about the personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits pestering celebrities like Hulk Hogan, the Notorious B.I.G., and Owen Wilson. A month later, there has been no shortage of celebrity lawsuits in the news. Of course, most revolve around Lindsay Lohan and her substance-related antics. Below are some selections from May personal injury and wrongful death law among the rich and famous:
- Earlier this month, police sources told the press that former ‘Seinfeld’ star Jason Alexander (George) was not “at fault” for a bicycle accident involving a 14-year-old boy. In late April, the boy collided with Alexander’s vehicle, causing some bumps and bruises. Alexander’s representative confirmed that the actor acted opposite to how George Costanza would have: “Jason stayed with the cyclist until the paramedics and police arrived and all indications are that the injury was minor,” he said.
- Police arrested former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records, this month for assault with a deadly weapon. Knight was named by the family of Notorious B.I.G. in a wrongful death lawsuit last month, which claimed that he helped plan the late rapper’s murder. Knight, who has a laundry list of priors including battery and probation, was released on $65,000 bail.
- This feels like something out of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Former Miami Dolphin receiver O.J. McDuffie won a $11.5 million medical malpractice lawsuit against his former doctor, Dr. John Uribe, for a career-ending 1999 toe injury. McDuffie said the doctor was negligent because his injury “was a lot more serious than I was led to believe.” Uribe is likely to appeal the decision.
