Behold, the bicycle minivan.

Last week the Bay Citizen featured an article on how some San Francisco parents are opting to make the bike a family vehicle. The article contained the following video featuring Ginger Bisharat, a North Panhandle resident who uses a long bike to transport her two kids to and from school.

Ginger says it’s easier to hold a conversation with her kids while riding a bike than it is in the car, and she’s also gotten in the best shape of her life by choosing to cycle everywhere she goes.

Although it might not be practical for everyone, it’s inspiring to see people making the switch to a healthy and environmentally conscious lifestyle without missing a beat. As with anything, there are definite safety risks, but Ginger says she rides defensively, slowly, and is always on the lookout for potential hazards.

What do you think? Is the bike minivan a good solution for transporting kids within the city?
