Robert Redford is too cool for speed limits 1As proof that it’s not just young celebrities who can be terrible role models, 76-year-old screen icon Robert Redford recently boasted he drives at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

In a recent interview with Esquire, the onetime Sundance Kid was asked if he still enjoys driving fast. Redford’s response: “You bet. I’ll have breakfast in Napa Valley at my place and I’ll drive straight through 720 miles to Salt Lake for dinner… I’m moving 120, 130 miles an hour on an open highway… I don’t want to talk too much about this. I just love movement. I get really antsy if I can’t move.”

You know who else gets antsy during long drives? Nearly everyone else! But that doesn’t change the fact that you still need to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly.

The star has a long history of speeding tickets, but seems unfazed by the relatively minor monetary fines. Essentially saying he’s completely unconcerned by the rules that apply to most non-celebrities and law abiding citizens. And, although it’s encouraging Redford seemed at least partially aware he shouldn’t be bragging about reckless driving, it’s still disappointing to see someone so openly flaunting a law that exists largely for reasons of public safety.

Hopefully Redford’s shameless love of “movement” doesn’t end up causing an accident while commuting at breakneck speeds. Hopefully no one else is injured as a result of his desire to go twice as fast as he should be. And, hopefully Redford will do some serious self-assessment before the next time he gets behind the wheel.
