Ryan Marietti, a 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe correctional officer, was identified as the man who died in an August 28, 2026, single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Twin Bridges. South Tahoe Now published the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office announcement on August 29.
What was reported
In its initial August 28 report, South Tahoe Now placed the crash near mile marker 41, east of Strawberry. The outlet reported that a phone sent a crash alert at 4:09 a.m. Responders searched the area and located the vehicle around daylight, approximately 70 feet below the road.
The identification update said Marietti worked at the South Lake Tahoe jail. The reports reviewed do not establish why the vehicle left the highway or identify a final finding of fault.
Questions the available reports do not answer
The discovery time should not be treated as a confirmed crash time. Road shape, darkness or the distance down an embankment also do not, by themselves, establish the cause of a crash. This article does not attribute the incident to a vehicle defect, road defect or another driver.
