The historical incident
A pedestrian died on westbound I-580 in Oakland on August 27, 2023. See CBS San Francisco’s August 28, 2023 report.
The earlier GJEL account described multiple vehicle impacts near the Harrison Street off-ramp. It also repeated an unconfirmed account involving a damaged sedan. We have removed that unverified vehicle association and the implication that this was a recent crash.
What this correction does and does not establish
This page is not a current traffic alert, a new witness appeal or an update on the investigation’s outcome. We have not verified a later finding of responsibility or a subsequent case result. The old report should not be used to identify a responsible driver.
