In this case, GJEL Accident Attorneys represented a motorcyclist who was involved in a motorcycle accident with an inattentive driver in Livermore. The client was on his way home from the store and was stopped at a red light in a left turn lane. When the client’s left-turn arrow turned green, he proceeded into the intersection to make his turn. Suddenly a car from oncoming traffic was coming towards him. The car ran its red light and struck the client, causing him serious injuries that ultimately resulted in the amputation of his lower leg.

The woman driving the car that struck the client was the defendant in this case. The defendant was straightening her floor mat and was not paying attention to the road. She was cited at the scene of the accident for running the red light and was determined by the police to be solely at fault for the accident. This defendant was driving in the scope of her employment, and so her employer was the second defendant in this case.

GJEL Accident Attorneys thoroughly investigated the assets of each of the involved defendants. Through face to face meetings, GJEL was able to convince the employer to contribute over $700,000 of the company’s money. We also did a thorough accounting analysis of the company’s financial information to determine how much the company could afford to contribute to the settlement without compromising its ability to do business. We also analyzed the value of the home owned by the defendant driver, including the amount of equity and determined a fair contribution from her personal funds as well.

GJEL Accident Attorneys used this information, as well as a video of the accident taken by a camera on board a nearby commercial vehicle in obtaining a result in our client’s favor. GJEL also used an economist to cost out the future cost of the client’s prosthetic leg and all of the upgrades and replacements the equipment would need, along with his maintenance medical care. Through all this careful work, GJEL was able to obtain an additional $500,000 for this client.
