In this case, GJEL Accident Attorneys represented a pedestrian who was injured in a truck accident. When the client was crossing Telegraph Avenue at Stuart Street in Berkeley, a delivery truck was waiting to turn left from Stuart Street onto Telegraph. The truck entered the intersection and began its turn, in the process, hitting the client and knocking her to the ground.

The defendant in this case was the driver of the truck and the driver’s employer. The driver claimed he didn’t see our client because of glare from the sun. The investigating police officer put the driver at fault for the accident. GJEL Accident Attorneys argued that if a driver can’t see, he should not make a turn assuming there are no pedestrians crossing a busy street.

In this case, the client was halfway through her PhD studies in history at the time of her injury. Her disabilities from the accident prevented her from completing her PhD on time and GJEL Accident Attorneys employed consulting experts combined with research to show that in addition to the damages she suffered in the form of medical costs and pain and suffering, the client also suffered significant economic loss because of the injuries resulting in her obtaining her full time teaching position as a history professor a full one year after she would have otherwise. GJEL used her excellent academic standing and recommendations from her doctoral advisor, along with real data regarding the positions that were open, had she completed her studies on time, to show the loss of one year’s worth of salary as an additional damage in her case. To compensate the client for all her damages and losses, GJEL was able to recover $140,000 for her.
