The San Francisco based company Bike Works has issued a voluntary recall of 4,100 bikes for “safety reasons” citing several customer reports that pedals had either cracked or broken. The recall involves 18 different models of men’s and women’s bikes sold over the past two years.
According to Bike Works, the bicycles included in the recall are of, “various colors and sizes,” but the word “Wellgo” is embossed on both the top and bottom of the pedals. And, since all bicycles with Wellgo pedals are included in this recall, that’s probably the best starting point for determining whether your bike may be at risk.
You can also check the metal ‘badge’ at the top of the down tube, which will be stamped with a number. The recalled badge numbers are 1-5843, 5845, 12560, 20743 and 20757. However, the ‘Apple’ model, which has no badge, is also included.
