Motorcycle and Car Collision in Marin County, State of California 1

Accident Overview

On May 20, 2016, at 6:15 PM, our client was a passenger on a motorcycle driving eastbound on Novato Boulevard, 1.06 miles west of Copper Hill way, in unincorporated Marin County, State of California. Our client was a passenger on a 2006 Honda 600 RR motorcycle when a collision occurred between the motorcycle and an automobile. The accident resulted in the loss of work, serious injuries, and large medical bills leaving our client in a state of uncertainty.

About the Accident

This was a two-vehicle accident that resulted in serious injuries for our client due to the negligence of the other automobile driver.

There were no adverse road conditions and the automobile driver failed to see the motorcycle our client was a passenger on.

After the accident, our client suffered from right foot fractures, a fractured scapula, a fractured collar bone, and a road rash. She was transported by way of Novato Fire Department ambulance to Marin General Hospital in Marin County, California. She was released the following day and then returned a week later for implant surgery on the right foot. The driver of the car that caused the accident was insured by State Farm Insurance while the owner of the motorcycle our client was a passenger on was insured by Progressive Insurance.

Case Facts

Our client needed ongoing medical treatment after the implant surgery, including casting and physical therapy. Initially, State Farm Insurance was not convinced of the severity of our client’s damages.

Our client missed a significant amount of work and was charged large medical bills from this accident. Based on this information she reached out to GJEL Accident Attorneys to see if she was entitled to compensation and to have her questions answered. She wanted to know:

  1. Who is responsible for my medical bills?
  2. How will I pay these bills and the loss of work?
  3. What if I have permanent lifelong damage to my body?

The staff at GJEL were able to quickly evaluate the case over the phone and send an investigator and, at her request, sent a member of our staff to meet her at her home since it was very difficult for her to travel.

Based on the serious injuries from this accident and the mounting medical bills our client decided to retain GJEL Accident Attorneys to help get her life back on track after this tragic accident.

The staff at GJEL started a full investigation which started with getting the police report from the California Highway Patrol in Corte Madera.  The traffic collision report showed that the other driver was 100% at fault and responsible for the accident.

At first, State Farm Insurance was not convinced the damage was as severe as they were and offered $80,000. As the firm filed a lawsuit and collected more evidence, the insurance company ultimately settled the case for $250,000 prior to the date of trial. Attorneys Andy Gillin and Jim Larsen helped our client through this difficult time. In the end, our client was awarded $250,000.
